Menopause is the last stage of a woman’s menstruation. When a woman has not menstruated even once in 12 consecutive months and can no longer be pregnant naturally. It is a normal part of aging in women. It marks the end of their reproductive years.
Menopause usually occurs in your late has to early 50 s however, women whose ovaries are removed. They undergo sudden, surgical menopause.
Cause Of Menopause
Here are some reasons for being a menopause, which is as follows:-
- Less production of estrogen and progesterone :- The hormones in your ovaries called estrogen and progesterone, which control your menstruation and aid your reproduction, at one point of the time this production starts decreasing, which cause year menopause. In your 40 s, year menstruation starts to changes a lot. And on average by the age of 51, your ovaries stop laying eggs, and then you don’t have any more periods.
- Primary ovarian insuffiency :- In about 1% of women, before their 40s due to autoimmune disease or genetic reasons, their ovaries fail to produce eggs, or the reproductive hormones (estrogen and progesterone) decrease. Which cause premenopause.
- Oophorectomy :- A surgery in which the ovaries are removed. As you know, ovaries produce estrogen and progesterone hormones and control the menstrual cycle.
But when your ovaries are removed, then it causes your immediate menopause.
- Hysterectomy:- A surgery in which your uterus is removed, but your ovaries usually do not cause immediate menopause after this surgery your periods stop, but eggs continue to be released from your ovaries and estrogen and progesterone are also produced.
- Chemotherapy and radiation therapy :-
Cancer treatment in women sometimes leads to menopauseafter chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Menstrual and fertility loss after chemotherapy is not always permanent. Radiation therapy only affects ovaries function if radiation is directed into the ovaries. If radiation therapy is used in other parts of the body, then it does not affect menopause.
There are mainly three types of menopause :-
- Natural :- When estrogen and progesterone levels begin to decrease naturally and women are unable to do their menstruation naturally. We call it natural menopause.
- Premenopause :- When periods stop before the age of 40. We call it premature menopause. This can be due to many reasons, including diabetes, hypothyroidism, surgery or prescription drugs and genetic factors.
Smoking may also be one of the reasons.
- Artificial Menopause :- When both of a woman’s ovaries are removed through surgery, there is a sudden drop in hormone levels. Due to which the symptoms of menopause start suddenly, we call this artificial menopause.
The onset of menopausal symptoms can be due to a change in your bleeding pattern. During this time your periods can be light or heavy, and can be long or short. In this, the time between your periods can also increase and sometimes your periods can be missed. All these changes happen gradually in some women and suddenly in some.

- Hot flushes occur in about 60% of women.
- Frequent night sweats.
- Being tired.
- Pain in joints and bones.
- Vaginal dryness.
- Dry skin.
- Hair loss.
- Loss confidence.
- Loss of interest in sex.
- Difficultly in concentrating.
- Difficulty in sleeping.
- Irritability or mood swing.
Menopause is a natural process that usually starts after the age of 45 or around 50. If a woman has menopause before 40 years, then it is called premature menopause. There can be many risk factors associated with it, such as.
- If surgery is done to remove the ovaries.
- If you have radiation therapy.
- If the chemotherapy process is performed near your ovaries.
- If you have taken medicines that lower estrogen levels.
- If another woman in the family had previously suffered a Premenopause.
- If you have any problems with your immune system.
- If a woman smokes.
- If a woman consumes alcohol etc.

- By consuming healthy diet.
- By limiting caffeine and alcohol.
- Quitting smoking.
- By incorporating exercise into your lifestyle.
- By managing stress.
- Include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet.
- Using saturated fat.
- Low fat dairy products.
- Get enough sleep.
- Consumption of non-vegetarian food such as liver and tuna fish.
